Snowed In!

Sarah

"Nope. They don't need anything, actually. Well, aside from life energy, but every living thing needs that."

Njall blinked. "How very odd indeed."

Devika

I frowned, dragging my attention away from the current conversation and towards those who had come in. My eyes settled at first on the cat, then on the girl. I didn't really look past them for a few minutes, my wings fluttering as quickly as they could in their condition.

Cat. Cat's liked butterflies. I'm way too similar to a butterfly for my liking.

Then I remembered what the girl, Sarah if I remembered correctly, had left for in the first place. To find her friend. I searched the area with my eyes, noting the others she had with her. Particularly the one who wasn't standing.

"BY THE GRAVE," I exclaimed, unable to help myself. "HOW THE LADY DID HE GET HERE?"

I paused, my eyes making a connection they hadn't originally caught. Rowan wasn't how I was used to seeing him. He had no wings and he was huge. Not just huge... human size.

Sarah

The fairy's outburst surprised me. "Uh, I carried him...? Why's this a big deal...?"

Devika

I fluttered down from where I was sitting, studying him for another moment from afar, not answering Sarah just yet. Shaking my head I flew closer, scowling just a little as I decided I was right.

"I know that guy."

Or at least... I think so.

Sarah

I blinked. "How? Maybe you just know someone who looks like him."

Devika

I thought for a moment, shaking my head.

"Too similar," I paused, considering my words. "Does fire stuff, talks about animal soul stuff, has a mate named Blair..."

Sarah

"Uh..." I shook my head. "He has the fire stuff and the animal soul stuff, but he definitely doesn't have a 'mate.' What's the name of the person you're thinking of?"

Devika

I paused, considering. This wasn't normal. He shouldn't be here, let alone shouldn't be wingless or huge. If I'd been able to remember his old name... I'd say that one. It seemed fitting. I could only recall one, though.

"I'm sure it's not the name you'd know him by..." I began, annoyed. "But its Prince Rowan Arkan."

Sarah

"...Okay, that's kind of uncanny now..." I looked from the fairy to Peter and back again. "His name is Peter Arkan...but..." I snickered a little. "He's definitely not a prince." Then I just started giggling a little more at the idea. Really, a prince? Yeah right!

Devika

"Well, not by blood," I said, rolling my eyes just a little. "The girl he married was a princess and he got to be a prince by default."

Sarah

"Well, even so," I started, "like I said, his name is Peter. Not Rowan. And he's only sixteen--way too young to be married."

Devika

I rolled my eyes once again.

"Looks sixteen. I mean, how old do I look?"

Sarah

"I dunno, eleven-ish? Really, though, he is sixteen. Says so on his records." I kinda wished he would wake up right now, but judging by how low his energy was, he'd be out for a good, long while.

...Oh, right. Crap.

The hypothermia thing. I'd forgotten. He wasn't shivering, which was...a good sign. Or...maybe it was a bad sign? Gah, I didn't know how to deal with this.

Okay, yeah, really need you to wake up right now...

Devika

"Well, as far as I know, he's not. Him and his mate showed up a long time ago. I showed them to the city, I should know."

My wings fluttered rather quickly as I said this, as if to betray my annoyance. It wasn't my fault he showed up here and by the lady I wasn't going to ignore it. If she sent him here... I had to hope to hell that it wasn't cause she wanted me back in the world. I earned my right to leave, or at least, she said I could...

Sarah

"Like I said, you have the wrong person. They may be creepily similar, but they're not the same. I already said he didn't have a 'mate,' too. But the fundamental flaw here is the name thing; his name is Peter, and the person you're talking about is named Rowan."

The snow on Peter's clothes had started to melt and soak in. I switched to water, trying not to jolt at the sudden temperature change, and drew all the water and snow off of him. Holding it in a ball floating in the air, I crossed back to the door. I opened the door just a crack, then fed the water through until it was all outside again. I quickly shut the door, switched back to fire (what a relief) and went back to where I'd been sitting before.

"Sorry," I said, "just had to do that."

Quinny and Ori looked at each other and assumed it was alright for them to enter as well. Ori kept close to his sister and glanced around the cabin.

"I'm Ori, this is Quinny," He pointed over to his sister. "Hope we are allowed to stay.... Its cold outside. It's hard to chew bamboo when its cold out."

Quinny rolled her eyes at what her brother said.

((Sorry to suddenly unseat this, but Njall and Angfand have been made into female characters in their story. Try to pretend they were always female.))

Njalla held the door open for Ori and Quinny. "Come in! I do not know of this bamboo you speak of, but we have salted meat and spiced fruit enough to last."

Angfand stood up, looming over Ori and Quinny before speaking to Njalla. "Not if you keep letting strays in, we don't. Too many mouths and not enough food."

Ori made a face at the salted meat remark. "I think we will be fine with our bamboo. He held up his rod and pointed over to his sister.

Quinny walked in behind her brother and looked around. "Hi there. I'm Quinny. He's Ori. Its nice to meet you." She gave a kind smile and nibbled on her rod.

"I already introduced us, Quinn." Ori mumbled to his sister.

"Well, maybe they didn't hear!" Quinny remarked back at it with a small glare.

Njalla chuckled. "I heard you quite well the first time."
Angfand snorted, apparently unimpressed. "If we're going to get an echo from you for everything he says I'll throw you out into the snow myself."
